KATIE MACKIE - TERRICOT TOWN (SINGLE REVIEW)

Indie-pop artist Katie Mackie is back with her latest release 'Terricot Town', the follow up to the stunning single 'Glow'.  'Terricot Town' starts with a calming tone, the music is so delicately played, the subtlety of the rhythm with the mellow piano lightly dancing over the vocals and finger clicks gives the song that spacious and airiness that carries you along with it.  There is a kindness felt in Katie's vocals, they bring a warmth that is very comforting to your ears.  The laid back rhythm of the piano and vocal holds the core texture of the song and keeps that peaceful groove, the introduction of drums and the bass line deepen the sound as it wraps around the piano and vocals, giving you a feeling of tranquility.  The chorus is where the intensity is felt more strongly, subtle synths can be heard in the background adding a slight haunting feel to the song.

The atmosphere builds continuously as the song progresses and the accompanying backing vocals heard in the last minute of the song, bringing out the emotions as Katie's vocals become more passionate and you can feel that heartfelt tone in her delivery.  There is an aura that surrounds this song, the electricity that runs through the track can be felt as soon as you hear the opening few bars and you just can't pull yourself away.  'Terricot Town' is another stunning example of Katie's songwriting skills, her attention to detail lyrically and musically makes her sound so unique and distinctive.

Katie mentions about the track "I've recently found most of my writing mixes uplifting melodies with quite emotional thought provoking lyricism.  This style of writing really fascinated me as I think the meaning of the track could be perceived differently by each listener in a way that's personal to them; as a love song, a tribute to a lost one, a break up song, or even a song of hope."
