KATIE MACKIE

Pop artist Katie Mackie from the North East of Scotland, brings her latest single 'Glow' to the your ears.  After erupting into the music scene in 2018.  She quickly established herself as a solo artist and an artist to watch, she has played shows all across the country supporting the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Heather Small of M People and Mo Kenny.  Katie has spent the last few years performing both solo and as part of the Glasgow based band American Clay, she has spent her time really refining her sound and songwriting, which shines through tremendously in her latest sing 'Glow'.  On 'Glow' Katie mentions "instead of trying to piece things together and constantly look at everything we go through in life with a magnifying glass, it's sometimes better to let them go.  Not everything has an explanation, not everything needs one."

'Glow' intertwines classic songwriting with contemporary production.  At its core the track is intimate and fragile, yet brings an uplifting reflection on loss.  There is a warmth in Katie's vocals, with the soft and gentle yet heartfelt and passionate tone of her voice that you feel yourself melt into.  The harmonies heard at the beginning and at the choruses are beautifully sung over the top of a what sounds like a very subdued organ sound.  The mellow and light instrumental sits perfectly just to the back of the vocals and gaining slight intensity as the song progresses.  The delicate piano melody is heard alongside Katie's vocals, which plays to the same rhythm as her vocals in each verse and adds those stunning melodic riffs.  The electric guitar is heard mostly at the choruses and stays at a similar volume as the piano, they bring that added electric element that lifts the chorus, there is also a faint acoustic guitar heard in the instrumental break you listen carefully.  The bassline adds to the songs depth, with the drums playing at an almost restful pace that feels like a warm blanket being placed over the top and keeps listeners cosy and warm within this track.  This is an incredible heartfelt pop track that radiates such warmth and comfort for listeners and you just want to have it on repeat.
