SIENNE - WE ALL LOOK TO THE SAME SKY (EP REVIEW)

The Liverpool 4 piece release their debut EP 'We All Look to the Same Sky' , the guys steadily released five tracks over the past year building up to the final single and title track 'We All Look to the Same Sky'.  The EP kicks off with the thunderous 'Where Is Home', encompassing all things indie rock,  opening with a string swell which bursts into a wall of thick guitar riffs layered over a lively drum beat and brings that unstoppable blaring rhythm.  The vocals are gritty and addictive, with an anthemic sing along chorus that is guaranteed to get stuck in your head.  The track contains an energy that just seeps out from all its corners.  'Coming Alive' continues with the thick guitar riffs, this time with a more Artic Monkey's feel to them.  It is a little on the slower side, bringing a darker edgier groove which only heightens the atmosphere and intense energy, something that these guys are incredible at putting across in their music.

"The EP was written during a strange time and we had to adapt - generally we write as a unit; an idea may stem from one person but we like to develop as a group, and at first with this EP we could function much like we're used to, writing together physically in a room.  However, as the world began to fall into the COVID hole that we currently still find ourselves in, we had to change our method". - SIENNE

'Side By Side' changes up the tempo and calms things down, with the stripped back rhythm of atmospheric and spacious guitar melodies, Calan's rich and warm vocal tone delivers a passion and heart that is heightened intensely by the instrumentation.  The track builds and you hear those thick guitar riffs coming in at the pre-chorus, however they ascend into soaring melodies at the chorus which glides above the rest and gives an emotional and powerful lift.  The track takes a more melancholic approach, adding in those spine chilling harmonies that capture you and pulls you in.  'Gone To Long' picks up the tempo once more, 'Side By Side' had you soaring along, this one pulls you back down with the deeper textures and the more prominent bass line, with all other elements ricocheting and dancing off it.  The blistering rhythm oozes a confidence and you just know that this track will go off in a live setting.

'Can You Hear Me Now?' is a rock filled track that packs a punch, it was definitely created with stadiums in mind, with the belting chorus that will get you singing at the top of your lungs, huge drums layered with thick melodic guitar rhythms are guaranteed to get you dancing!  The foot stomping, hand clapping and isolated vocals heard mainly in the chorus is very reminiscent of Queen 'We Will Rock You'. 'We All Look to the Same Sky' brings a mixture of pop melodies, intertwined with that driving indie rock rhythm.  Lyrically the song is definitely one that we can all can relate to particularly at present.  The song has an uplifting vibe, bringing those similar melodic guitar riffs we have heard in 'Side By Side'.  The violin section that sits within the vigorous drum and bass line adds to the atmosphere, intensifying the track and sending shivers down your spine.

"A lot of the themes in the EP reflect the situation we have found ourselves in this year, overwhelmingly the need to spread positivity, and to come together to help one another wherever possible". - SIENNE

This EP is packed with confidence and an energy that takes hold all the way through, you only need to listen to know that these guys are so comfortable within their sound and I am excited to see what else these guys have got to offer.
