I AM DAVID LAING - BE THERE // SINGLE REVIEW
I Am David Laing brings this soulful heartfelt song to your ears and it grips you from the moment it begins. Starting out with what sounds like an eery electronic key accompanied by a soft vocals 'Ooh's', setting that intimate stripped back atmosphere. Immediately you are pulled right into David's voice and the lyrics, there is a vulnerability, a heartache as he sings "I wanted to be there" an introspective promise he is making to himself as well as outwardly letting the world know, almost torn between a sense of hope and heartbreak. Accompanied with a piano, really heightens that emotion and through out the song David takes you on that sentimental journey with him and pulls at your heartstrings. The piano provides that comfort, simple chords intertwined with melodic moments that provide that warmth within the track. The subtle use of an ambient background, the very faint synth pad that lingers throughout brings that chilling element to the track, as well as bringing a depth within the song which softens the instrumentation and enhances the atmosphere without overshadowing the vocals. The track ends in a way that feels like the last moments of a relationship and bringing a sense of closure, David's vocals allow the instrumentation to lead the song out for the last 40 seconds of the track and the slow fade away at the end with the sustained piano chord and synth, will send chills down your spine. 'Be There' is a very moving track and David demonstrates his musical ability to evoke emotion both vocally and instrumentally and brings those quiet moments of reflection to the listener.
This is also a track that I have had the pleasure of hearing live and when David sang this track you could hear a pin drop in the room it was that quiet and you could just tell that he had the entire audience gripped to every word he was singing. I am excited to see the journey that I Am David Laing is on and to watch him continue to grow as an artist. Definitely get this guy on your playlist!
