INDIE INVERCLYDE - SLIX LIVE // SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER

The 3rd in the Indie Inverclyde series took place on Saturday 14th September and it was certainly a night of high energy and great vibes.  The night kicked off with Paparazzi (Formally known as The Witz).  The band showcasing their new sound of that energetic driving pop rock, infectious rhythm infused with some jangly 80s sounds, from the keys and guitars .  The band also gave us a rendition of Sabrina Carpenter's single 'Espresso',  injecting the energy of pop rock into the song and amping up the crowd.  The band also covered 'Together in Electric Dreams' by Phil Oakley and the guys leaned into that 80s sound, again putting their own style into the song.  The band definitely set the atmosphere for the night and brought the energy and definitely setting the tone by warming up the crowd for the headliners Slix.  Paparazzi bring a refreshing sound and are definitely ones to watch with their new name and revamped sound.

Slix then took to the stage for their hour long set that right from the start was high octane and turned the heat up to the next level with their lively sound and powerful indie rock.  The band did not hold back diving straight in with their vigorous track 'Mindless' starting as they mean to go on with this one, a wall of sound from the guitars, drums and vocals certainly go the crowd going instantly.  They then went straight into 'All Grief, No Sleep' another song that has a ball of energy that reverberated around the Studio.  Amping up the energy song after song as they powered through their set, giving everyone a rock rendition of Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) and at this point they had the crowd right in the palm of their hands, singing the lyrics right back to them, who doesn't love a bit of ABBA?  They then performed a new track which is yet to be named, this was when the lead singer Robbie Peden asked the crowd if they have any good names or ideas to throw them their way, which was a fun back and forth between the band and audience members.  At this point the crowd and the band were on a high and there was no slowing down as they performed their popular tracks '2X', 'Rewind', 'With You','Current Affairs' & 'Waster' maintaining the energy, drive and that gritty indie rock sound, the crowd singing along, dancing and some mosh pits included. The band briefly left the stage, with lead singer Robbie and guitarist Harvey returning to perform a stripped back acoustic cover of 'Digsy's Dinner' by Oasis, although it was a brief calm acoustic section amongst the set, the crowd were still on top form for singing along.  the band then returned for the final 2 songs of the night, their latest single 'Chonga' which was a crowd favourite and finishing of with 'Maga' ending the night on a high.  This is a band that is full of energy and charisma and they are certainly building their fanbase up and making a name for themselves within the Scottish Music Scene and beyond.

The small intimate Studio venue within The Beacon Arts Centre really is a fantastic adaptable space that can accommodate all styles and genres.  The Indie Inverclyde Series this has certainly putting a spotlight on the local Inverclyde talent.
