ARTESAN + SUPPORT // LIVE @ BEHIND THE WALL // FALKIRK
The night kicked off with An Opening Lie, the band certainly set the tone for the night giving the audience a set of their upcoming releases as a band as well as previous solo songs released by lead singer Adam Donaldson. Showcasing their new song 'You' which went down well with the crowd. Performing songs that originally recorded as acoustic tracks, with the track 'Tip Tap' the band amped this up injecting a full band sound and turning it into a rock anthem with a hint of some country rock influences within it. They also played 'The Ballad of Covid-19' a song which was written in the height of the pandemic, and one that everyone could relate to, a very heart felt song to hear live.
Next up was Social Dancing and this was their debut performance for the 3-piece band and they brought a huge sound. Performing a half hour set of their upcoming music and what you can expect from this band in the coming weeks and months, a gritty rock sound. The band are not yet on Spotify and have not released anything officially, but when they do the you need to keep these guys on your radar.
The headliners, Artesan took to the stage and with the crowds energy already amped up from the support this was definitely going to be an electric set from the band and they were certainly on form. Getting things started with an instrumental that rumbled through your entire body and what an introduction to their first song 'Feel Like Myself Again' this was certainly a sing along type of song, a song to get the audience right in the palm of their hands. The band flowed through their set with that continuous low gritty rock sound they are known for and those low rumbling tones, they have an energy yet it is not rushed, it's not aggressive so you can take it all in and listen to every section of their songs and 'Rage' (previously featured on the blog) is the perfect example of this, a fantastic mix of those low bass tones, driving drums, acoustic guitar to lift the sound alongside the distinctive vocals from Ronnie.
'Singing at the Train' brought those electronic elements and I loved what they had done for the beginning of this song, taking those very familiar Scotrail train announcement sounds that everyone knows and mixing it into the track, this song picked up the pace getting the crowd going even more. They then went on to play 'Fly' which seemed to be the crowd favourite and just by hearing this song live I could understand why, the song grabs you instantly and the build up to the soaring guitar solo from lead guitarist Bryce was both melancholic as it was uplifting. Hearing the audience sing along with the band was joy to watch. 'Lonely People (Are Never Alone)' is the most recent release of the band and this was a more grungy track with a sprinkle of some Oasis influences through out with those indie rock elements. 'Lifesaver' was yet another track with a very similar sound and vibe to 'Fly' with the acoustic guitar being at forefront of the instrumentation and with yet another guitar solo from Bryce that really got the crowd completely gripped. The last few songs of the set saw the band perform a new song and ending on a cover of Oasis 'Bring it on Down', which got the crowd going once last time, the acoustic break in the middle of the song mixed in with that Artesan sound made this the perfect song to end the night on and ending on a high. The sound that these guys produce really is arena level, I am excited to see where this band are heading and if you are a fan of The Verve, The Killers, Pearl Jam then you need to get out and see these guys!
