BLACK DOVE - THE BACKROOM (SINGLE REVIEW)

'The Backroom' kicks off with some jangly guitars chords, which bring a sense of both comfort and uneasiness that perfectly aligns with the lyrics in the song, where they sing about reaching your mid 20s that comes along with responsibilities, paying bills & not going out as much to party.  Reminiscing about those party days "just cause we're getting older don't mean the party's over".  If you listen closely you can here a Rhodes electric piano that is slightly off tune from the guitars, that fits so well in the songs landscape giving the it that depth within the track.  The song feels minor in its key but with an optimism and an upbeat rhythm that really gives you the after party feeling and thinking back, a sense of tranquility flows through out with hope, happy memories and a side of regret the following day when you drink to much and anyone who listens will relate to every aspect of this song.  The guitar solo is certainly a stand out in the track, one that will get the crowd going.

The 5-piece indie rockers from Inverclyde were formed in 2016 and the band consists of Josh Cunningham (Vocals/Guitar), Conal Harrington (Lead Guitar), Riss McManus (Bass), Hamish McGown (Drums) & Sean Neils (Keyboard).  The band are known for their energetic live shows and this energy definitely bursts through their records.  Keep your eyes on these guys they are definitely ones to watch in the Scottish music scene.
