Black Glitter Music Showcase // Captain's Club, Dundee

27-year old music business student Andrew Davidson who is his final year a music business at Perth College. For his honours project, Andrew is using his music promotions company Black Glitter Music Promotion, he is organising two live music showcases in April at The Captain’s Cabin in Dundee which will feature performances from mostly Dundonian artists. Entry will be free, but attendees will be encouraged to spare a donation of at least £5 towards the Tayside Health Fund.

After organising a number of Dundee concerts before lockdown with his former organisation Pink Emo Promotions, Andrew wanted to host a concert with a goal to raise funds for a worthy cause like the Tayside Health Fund.

Dundee has always been at the forefront of advancements in medical research in Scotland and beyond, and after the last two years of unprecedented crisis brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic, he knew he wanted to help give back to the medical community in some way to thank them for their relentless and potentially life-risking work delivered during this tumultuous period.

As a supporter of emerging DIY musicians, being able to showcase a roster of different artists is also something Andrew takes great pride in. The first showcase on the 17th of April features solo performers Pete Smith, James Liandu, Beth Wood, Justboy and Katie Nicoll, who are all highly emotive and passionate songwriters who use music as a source of catharsis to express their deepest hopes and fears.  The second showcase on the 24th of April features alternative rock bands Blind Unicorn, Uganda’s Moonshine Epidemic, Red Vanilla and Soundmind.

"I am a big rock buy at the end of the day, and bands like these will always have a place in my heart. There’ll be a lot of big riffs and dancing crowds and I for one can’t wait." - Andrew Davidson

Andrew also goes on to talk about the organising of this event during such difficult times "Like any event organisation, there have been moments of stress and obstacles to overcome just to put it together, including fears that the spread of the Omicron variant would put a halt to the shows altogether. Luckily, we’ve seen the live music industry return to full health in 2022. We’ve seen more people attending gigs than ever because they were deprived for such a long stretch of time. Obviously, we still want people to be careful and treat each other with kindness at shows as you would virus conditions or not, but it’s important we keep up our habits of making our shared spaces safe and healthy for everyone."

The Black Glitter Music Showcase will take place on Sunday the 17th and Sunday the 24th April 2022 at The Captain’s Cabin, Ward Road, Dundee.  This is an event you don't want to miss!
