ABIGAIL PRYDE - LADY (DEBUT SINGLE REVIEW)

'Lady' is the debut single from Argyll based artist ABIGAIL PRYDE.  The track oozes country rock vibes from every corner, delving into those raw sounds that cuts right through.  Abigails vocals provides a smooth and delicate yet confident and unfaltering vocal tones, whilst the guitars, drums and piano all injecting the electrifying energy.  The fluttering vocal tone from Abigail fills the space throughout the song allowing the edginess of the instrumentation to dig right in, providing the perfect energy to get right under your skin.  The stomping drum beat, alongside the gritty guitar riffs throughout the track is destined to get those toes tapping, feet stamping and head bopping.  There is an uplifting positivity around the track musically and lyrically, emotions that Abigail made sure to include within the song;

"The single is about empowering women.  Encouraging them to follow their passions and carve out a life that they can enjoy and be proud of."

That empowering feeling flows through the music so easily and freely , it is hard not to feel uplifted after listening to this song.  The country rock sound is flavoured with a hint of folk influences and contemporary moments, this is a definitely a song that you will keep coming back to.  Abigail wants her music to encourage and inspire young female musicians to have the confidence to chase their dreams, the song itself dives into the need to challenge discrimination and breakdown gender stereotypes particularly within the music industry.

On the track Abigail is joined by Peter Nelson on guitar, David Callum MacMillan on drums and Kieth Morrison on keys. The musician usually records with her band Heron Valley, so for her to be recording this song without them is something that she mentions has been a bit of getting used to;

"I have always recorded with my band Heron Valley, who are a traditional folk band, so recording something myself has been really different. Firstly, due to the obvious genre differences but also because I've had the support of five other people to make key choices, so it's been a big change making decisions by myself on how I want the music to sound. I have really enjoyed the process an the musical independence recording the single has given me."

Originally from rural Argyll in Scotland, Abigail grew up with music very much at the heart of her family; learning fiddle from a young age whilst also being taught the guitar and vocal stylings at home with her father. She joined Heron Valley in its infancy whilst also studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Junior School. As well as touring extensively with Heron Valley, Abigail went on to graduate from The Royal Conservatoire or Scotland where she studied Scots Song and fiddle alongside her Classical studies. Her unique music style honest song writing makes Abigail an exciting prospect for the Scottish music scene and 'Lady' a much anticipated release.
