ANGELICA MODE

Angelica Mode is the musical project of singer-songwriter Brian Hughes, formed in 2020.  Over the last 7 years Brian has spent that time honing his craft both in the studio and live, including opening for The Amazons.  To date he has released 2 singles, with his debut single 'Your Love Is All the Rage' he has received a place in the inaugural Ivor Novello Academy Mentorship, as well as receiving national press from the likes of The Scottish Sun and The Scotsman.  His latest single 'Don't Make Me Wait' which has received support from Amazing Radio and BBC Radio Scotland.  Angelica Mode is a definite one to watch for 2021, having received some high accolades Spotlight Music pinned him as one of their "Top 45 Upstarts for 2021", as well as winning the "Best Indie Song" in the Teen Clash Indie Awards for his song 'Your Love Is All the Rage'.  At this time 'Don't Make Me Wait' reached the semi final of the International Songwriting Competition this year.  He has also caught the attention of L.A based record label Sound X3 Records, with an EP in the works.

'Don't Make Me Wait' is one of those laid back groovy indiepop tracks that packs a punch, with an essence of 80s pop laced through out.  Some synth elements providing the hook, the acoustic guitar strumming through the rhythm and the electric guitar providing some rich melodies (a catchy recurring melody that you will be humming along to).  The song flows in an almost carefree notion and the casual demeanour is as infectious as it is relaxing, perfect to either dance around or play on a long car ride montage in the summer.  It is a stirring track that holds your attention, there is a lot of low elements everything sticking low to the ground as it resonates through your ears.  The deep undertones rumble along allowing the vocals to flourish over the top.  There is no big build up to the choruses, you don't necessarily know the chorus is coming and the shift in is so subtle and flows in without disturbing the rhythm.  The bridge is where the instrumental break takes over and pulls us deeper into the groove as we are treated to a section of thick guitar riffs and brooding drums, bringing with it that moody darker atmosphere with a side of heavier rock.  This is a track that will ingrain itself into anyone who listens, there are hints of soulfulness in the vocals, which over the gritty groove makes this a very memorable song.  Angelica Mode is a definite artist to watch out for this year.
