ROLO GREB

Rolo Greb are the musical project of Aberdeen based multi instrumentalist Tom Williams, bringing laid back, dreamy music, with large influences from soul and psychedelic.  Rolo Greb started out as a solo project for Tom whilst living in Glasgow in 2018, his first EP came out in March of that year and immediately landed him a number of gigs, including BBC Introducing at King Tut's in Glasgow.  Rolo Greb have been warmly received in the live circuit, with Tom recruiting a full band for live shows in support of acts such as Another Sky, Fauves and Space Rocket Garage band.

The latest single 'New Beginnings' is the first release since their debut album 'Seeing Yellow', which came out in March 2020.  This track is a natural progression from what the debut album promised, with shimmery guitar and melodies, and layered vocals sit at the front to really bring out the psychedelic vibes. All whilst keeping the distinct Rolo Greb sound and Tom's growth as a songwriter is evident within this single and shows that he is continually evolving his sound.

'New Beginnings' is a chilled out/laid back psychedelic pop track, there is a calm tempo that sets the tone of the track from the psychedelic guitar, groovy bass line, dreamy vocals and shimmery keys.  There is a jazz, swing rhythm that comes through as well as a soulful flare.  The track does not rush, it goes at a pace that allows you to sink into it and take in its ethereal atmosphere, there is a very uplifting feeling to the instrumentation, the velvet texture and smooth tones are very comforting and nothing screams out to be heard, each element comfortably surrounds the other.  The bass line is the backbone of the track and gives the song depth and a warmth that oozes from its low tones, the guitars and keys are sprinkled over the top adding some glittering melodies.  As the track progresses the instrumentation builds as it adds in a little more thickness, moving from that lounge vibe to a funkier vibe, whilst Williams vocals stay distant and airy in the mix, there is a haze that falls over his vocals making you fall into a dream like state as you listen.  The melodies all sit snuggly side by side, becoming more groovier as the track moves into the last section where Tom's vocals fall away allowing the instrumental to fade the song out.
