LAURENCE MURRAY PROJECT

Laurence Murray Project are a band that bring an amped up mix of rock, electric blues, psychedelia and soul.  The band is the brain child of Edinburgh based singer/songwriter/guitarist Laurence Murray.  They take their influences from 60s & 70s psychedelic rock acts such as Pink Floyd & Jimi Hendrix, they are also know for creating a soulful throwback singer songwriter sound.  At the beginning of 2020, Laurence travelled to the Middle East, working as a Music and English teacher in refugee camps in Palestine and gaining new perspectives that would go on to influence his songwriting.  Referring to these experiences in his recent songwriting and describing his travels as helping him gain a "new found perspective on life and liberty".  Later in the year, the band recored their debut studio album 'Still' in the UK's most remote recording studio, Black Bay Studio on the Isle of Lewis, located in the western Isles of Scotland.  In early 2021 they released their latest single 'Providence' , which is the groups first studio release, with the album due for release mid to late 2021.

'Providence' channels those blues, soul and R&B vibes that courses through in a rocking style, the song starts with a down-tempo laid back guitar melody followed closely with key stabs that pulse there way through and you just find yourself nodding your head to the beat.  The guitars become fuller and grittier as we are treated to a fierce guitar solo, alongside the smooth bass line that adds a funky texture underneath and it will send you to your feet at this point.  Laurence's breathy vocals completely takeover the track as they lay down a velvety texture over the groove, leaving you utterly captivated by the delivery and melting right into the warmth that this track oozes.  As it progresses each element become thicker and the guitars and drums gush with those shimmering tones.  There is an injection John Mayer in the vocals, with the instrumentation holding sounds and tones heard in 60s psychedelia.  Lyrically the song explores themes of unconditional love, longing and dreams, whilst Murray writes with an honest and sincere tone on mental health, self-exploration and mystical experiences throughout.
