PANDAS

Pandas are a Glasgow based band, made up of Ellis Hurley (vocals/guitar), Oran McBride (guitar), Hugh ("Shug") McDonald (bass) and Roan McBeath (drums).  In August 2020 the guys released their debut single 'When it's Sunny' accompanied with the music video which gained over 18,000 views.  Their highly anticipated follow up single 'Sugar & Fishnets' was released at the beginning of 2021, the track was recorded/mixed by Jamie Holmes and mastered by Tom Woodhead.  The band mention that "Pandas is more than just about the music.  There is an intimate connection between song-writing and story that brings together the things we live when listening to good music."  The band have already been compared to the likes of Foals, Vampire Weekend and Bombay Bicycle Club.  Despite only existing for less than a year the band are building a loyal fanbase. 

'Sugar & Fishnets' starts off with a vigorous drum beat, a pulsing bass line with the guitars glistening over the top and then flies into a surging rhythm section.  Seeping with so much energy and pace from those shimmering psychedelic guitar melodies, and a bass line that rattles through your core making you want to get up and dance around.  The track fires through with a flow that is so unrelenting, which is everything you want from an indie rock track.  The incredible production of this track shows the bands authenticity, originality and downright passion to produce music that stays true to those indie roots - as well as creating their own style.  The track then shakes things up by switching to a swing type rhythm at the bridge, where the song takes a calmer slower pace with dreamlike guitar melodies and a jazzy drum line.  This is one thing that these guys have executed so well, how they seamlessly flow between different rhythms leaving you completely mesmerised and anticipating where they will go next.  The lyrics are delivered with a divergence and a passionate vocal tone from Ellis, his transition between soft and intense vocals fills the song with those dynamic textures, which captivates you.  The lyrics take on their own power, they are infused with passion and optimism, and Ellis's vocal tone on top of the pulsing groove makes it hard not to fall in love with this song and this band.
