MARKY WILDTYPE

Marky Wildtype is an Edinburgh based singer-songwriter.  He has been involved in the local music scene for a long time, predominantly as a guitarist in heavy rock bands (including Wildtype, Denomolos and Terrestria) and a general 'musician for hire'.  After an extensive break from non collaborative songwriting, Mark embarked on a creating his debut solo album 'Bruising Words and Bitter Pills' after a challenge from The Jellyman's Daughter's Emily Kelly to write a few new acoustic songs over a short space of time.  Being a solo artist was never the plan, but the idea gained traction and songs kept on pouring out, stylistic diverse but cohesive and anchored in strong melodies and harmonies.  The first single to be released from the album is 'Roots and All' which includes an exclusive B-side track 'Wake'.

'Roots and All' begins with sombre acoustic guitar chords and a haunting cello melody getting you hooked straight away.  The minor chords brings out those melancholy vibes, the rhythm is so calm and composed in a undisturbed manner that although you feel those haunting tones, you also feel a sense of comfort, warmth and a stillness making you close your eyes and take it all in.  There is a faint staccato sound from what sounds like the cello, sitting in the background, adding depth to the song's bass line. There is a gradual powerful lift to the chorus, where we hear the addition of keys alongside all instruments coming together to create an intense emotional chorus.  The vocals from Mark are filled with passion and his tone is so heartrending that it grips you instantly, the harmonies add that extra emotional depth to the chorus.  It's an acoustic track with an abundance of atmosphere that you will get lost within.  There is also a B-side with an exclusive track 'Wake', that brings those similar melancholic vibes, atmospheric feels and haunting tones.  This track is more upbeat, with the addition of the drums bringing even more intensity!  Both these tracks bring so much feeling and emotion and you will find yourself coming back to them.
