ELEANOR HICKEY

22 year old singer - songwriter Eleanor Hickey has been writing songs since a young age.  Recently obtaining a degree in Popular Music and has dabbled with many genres, with her style reflecting R&B and Pop influences.  She grew up listening to powerful female artists like Aretha Franklin, Linda Ronstadt and The Supremes.  She describes herself as an alternative pop musician with R&B influenced vocals.  Her songs deliver hearfelt lyrics which creates the depth within her songs, whilst the upbeat, driven tempos reflect a feel good, pop anthem.  Eleanor has also been filmed by BBC Scotland performing her debut single 'I'm Tired' for Emilie Sande's Street Symphony Orchestra.  She was also hand picked to perform at Perth Festival of Arts alongside the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Jools Holland.

'Happy on the Inside' is one of those tracks that has an uplifting instrumental, but layered with raw and powerful lyrics.  The blend of pop and acoustic with influences of R&B weaved through out makes for an anthemic track that contains not one but multiple different emotional atmospheres, it soars, but also has you feeling chilled out and calm, as well as feeling the heartfelt passion burning through from the both the lyrics and Eleanors vocal delivery.  It is a track that you can dance to and relax to.  There is a warmth that radiates from the instrumentation, the guitars and piano all flow alongside each other so beautifully and compliment Eleanors vocals as they allow the high ends to come through from her vocals whilst staying within the low ends and gives the song that smooth depth and velvety texture.  Along side the vocals, you can also hear the R&B influences come through on the drumbeat particularly at the chorus.  Nothing overwhelms you,  there isn't a single element that is pushing its way forward, instead you can easily listen and take in everything that is happening from the instrumentation, the atmosphere, the melodies and the lyrics.  One thing that I particularly love is the lingering sound -  which sounds like it is from either the synth or from the electric guitar - it happens for a few seconds before the chorus, where everything drops away leaving that lingering almost echo and it just adds to the atmosphere and anticipation for the chorus.  The instrumental becomes more uplifting as the song continues, while the vocals become more emotional and this contrast is what makes 'Happy on the Inside' an unforgettable song.

Eleanor has since released her newest single 'Living', which again delivers that same uplifting feel good tempo, whilst bringing a powerful and passionate vocal performance that details the difficulties of remaining a strong and secure women within a society that is ever changing, learning to only rely on herself whilst discovering herself along the way.
