CHERRY BLEACH
Cherry Bleach are a Aberdeen four piece, with a psychedelic grunge sound. The band is made up of Alisha Wilkie (vocals/rhythm Watson), Ewan Watson (bass), George Hudson (drums) and Thomas Reid (lead guitar). Packed full of melodic bass lines, dreamy guitar rills, strong female vocals and groovy drum beats. They have self described their sound as Grungeadelic and they express their talent through powerful lyrics and a high energy stage presence. Since the release of their debut EP 'Bees In My Bones' they have went on to play shows with the likes of SPINN and The Vegan Leather as well as hosting their own headline show in early 2020. The band refused to let lockdown get in the way of their growth, seeing an increase in followers in late 2020. Their latest single 'Drown' was recorded completely at home, the track was mixed and mastered by friend of the band Matt Charlton which was released in January. In the first 24 hours of release the track was streamed more than 1000 times, which pushed the band to do more.'Drown' is follow up single to their debut EP 'Bees in My Bones' and it is gushing with so much atmosphere. The dark psychedelic sounds and grungy vibes with atmospheric guitar riffs that soar above the rest of the track in an almost dreamlike way and the distant placement, creates that eerie empty room feeling. The thumping drum beat emanates the sense of a building anticipation, not sitting at the fore front of the track, mostly sitting in the back and this is where the feeling of suspense sits. The track rises and falls in intensity, falling back at the verses and builds you up to the gritty and fierce chorus. The vocals are hauntingly delivered, dripping in reverb to heighten the atmosphere and again create that eerie empty room vibe as if you are right there with them. This is a biting track that grabs you right between its teeth. 'Drown' is the bands first track since they have revamped their style and reshaped their sound, and it's a sound that I am excited to hear more of from these guys. You definitely need to get this band on your radar and they are definitely going to have a massive 2021.
