THE LATE APRILS

Hertford rockers The Late Aprils are a 4 piece alt-rock band that bring a sound anchored in jagged riffs and soaring, anthemic choruses.  Through their music they tell authentic stories of heartbreak and social upheaval, with their melodic lyrical style being both cutting and relevant.  After forming in spring 2019, the trio consisted of Greg Simmonds (guitar), Louee Dessent-Jackson (bass) and George McIntyre (drums) forging the bands songwriting direction, they then completed the line up with Mike Jones (vocals) in the summer of 2020.  Just like their first single 'What Remains' their second single 'Dying For A Future' was recorded entirely at home, with lockdown restrictions compelling the band to cover their bedrooms and basements into home studios.

'Dying For A Future' is everything you want from a full on rock song, those relentless guitar riffs, forceful drums and low frequency bass line that vibrates right through your ears all guaranteed to shake you to your core.  The track begins with those rock palm muted guitar riffs, which really allows you to pick up on the pace and tempo of the song, you know it is about to turn into a power driven track.  The lo fi radio effect vocals heard at the beginning over the guitar riff sing the chorus line that will stick in your head right away "Dying For A Future, fighting to survive I need someone to save me", this part is like the pre beginning before the song fully kicks in, you are then thrown into a wall of sound of sweeping melodies from the vocals, soaring guitar riffs and ruthless drums, keeping hold of that unwavering pace that is guaranteed to send you into a dancing frenzy.  The track then flies into an anthemic chorus that will get anyone who listens singing along and then into an explosive instrumental break that will have you dancing even more.  A rollercoaster track that just like the past year it encapsulates.  With the pandemic, job insecurity and climate crisis weighing on peoples minds.  The lyrics reflect the emotions and feelings many of us have experienced going into the new year, as lead guitarist Greg Simmonds comments "This song was born out of an idea I had years ago, but things only clicked into place with new, relevant lyrics.  The whole band channelled their own experiences in 2020 to collaborate on writing".    This track perfectly showcases their signature sound and will appeal to fans of Queens of the Stone Age, Lower Than Atlantis and Royal Blood.
