POST ROME

Post Rome are a 3 piece indie rock band from Sunderland, consisting of Jasper Watson (lead vocals/bass),  Ben Goodfellow (guitar/vocals) and Jamie Martin (drums).  The band have gained lots of attention on the live scene and have been working with nationally acclaimed promoter Scruff of The Neck, playing full capacity shows across the North East in venues such as Think Tank in Newcastle and Independent in Sunderland.  After a huge 2020 the guys are gearing up for an even bigger 2021, with shows in Teeside, Sunderland and further afield.  The guys have received great support on their previous releases from the likes of BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and It's All Indie and the guys are preparing to take their brand of ambitious alt-rock/pop to a whole new level.  Following on from their early 2020 releases 'Different Kids' and 'Want to Believe', the guys dropped their latest single 'The Idea of Having a Boyfriend' in late 2020 and this track is set to launch them from childhood friends to solidified Northern ones to watch.

If you are looking for your fix of pop rock then you need to get your ears round these guys and their latest single 'The Idea of Having a Boyfriend'.  The track contains rich rhythm guitar riffs, energetic drums with percussive elements that adds that extra shimmer, and a bassline that drives the low end giving the song that depth to really allow the rhythm guitar and vocals to soar, amplifying the uplifting atmosphere.  The chorus is laced with those pop undertones but never steering away from the indie rock style, an incredibly catchy sing along chorus and Jasper's distinctive charismatic vocals makes the chorus so thrilling and unforgettable that you just have to belt it out.

The high energy carries through to the verse's so the song never lets up on the lively and uplifting vibe, like a magnet that you are stuck to and can't pull yourself away from.  The bridge is when the song pulls back to the solo guitar delivering an atmospheric melody, with the other elements gradually building making you think the chorus is coming again however it suddenly ends so you just have to put it on repeat again.  The lyrics are melancholy in style but also tongue & cheek, as drummer Jamie Martin describes "this is a song that does exactly what it says on the tin, 'the idea of having a boyfriend' explores the feelings of people who simply just like having a partner rather than liking the person themselves." Going on to describe that the song doesn't take itself seriously "it's simply a text message turned into a catchy hook".  This is definitely a band that you need to add to your playlist!
