MUCKY SCOUNDREL

Mucky Scoundrel is the music project of West Lothian singer/songwriter Mark Feeney, who in 2020 saw the release of his debut single 'One Too Many' and on the day of the singles release Mark bumped into Susan Boyle who said that his music video was "bloody brilliant" after watching it.  Since it's release Mark has also been recording nonstop and he had hoped to release his second single 'Pay For Me' along with a video in February but this has been delayed due to Covid.  He has been in the process of creating an album and has been working with Scott Hannah who has produced all the tracks on the album.  Mark mentions: "I'm excited about getting back gigging.  It'll be cool to have released a few songs before actually having played any of these songs live".

With 'One Too Many' it feels completely raw in the sense that the elements and placement of the instruments and vocal sound as though they been recorded collectively, not one by one, to create that natural ambience and depth.  The track was released on the lead up to the festive season, which was written with an important message in mind, a message about drink driving and the consequences of doing so, and one that Mark wants to be delivered all year round.   The lyrics will get stuck in your head "sip sip sip on another drink I couldn't help myself, I got carried away" which is one of many memorable and strong lyrics in the song.  The track isn't dense instrumentally but has a more simplistic style, with only drums, electric guitar and bass guitar accompanying the passionate vocals from Mark, there is no added effects on any of the elements,  making it a straightforward track, with a powerful message, rough gritty texture and a Scottish edge to it.  This is a strong debut track from Mucky Scoundrel and I look forward to hearing what else he has in the works.
