FORGOTTEN SONS
Forgotten Sons are a 3 piece rock band from Shetland, an island nestled in between Scotland and Norway in the middle of the North Sea. The guys are used to sailing rough waters, battling the elements and overcoming adversity, which comes through in their powerful sound. The band released their latest punk infused single 'Last December' in December 2020 which is packed with an intense energy and fierce melodies, The song in support of the #SaveOurVenues campaign. They have received a lot of praise and support from BBC Newsbeat, Punktastic, Amazing Radio and The Punk Site. The guys have been likened to bands such as the Foo Fighters, Alkaline trio and Rage Against The Machine.
'Last December' starts with a delicate guitar melody which has you thinking it's going to be a mellow laid back guitar ballad, but then you are instantly hit by a huge wall of sound from the belting vocals, punching drums and gritty guitars all combined to create a colossal arrangement. From that point on the song does not let up, the electric guitar drives the song and builds to an emphatic crescendo with an instrumental break that intensifies the atmosphere and will get you on your feet jumping around in an instant. The lyrics are delivered forcefully with an uplifting tone, but are a deep reflection on the world before and the good times the band had in making music before Covid hit, as drummer John Gair mentions:
"'Last December' is a celebration of the good times we've had creating music. In these uncertain times we know how important music is for us. This is not just a hobby. For many it's not just a job. This is a passion. This is our whole lives and without the ability to tour and put on live shows and gigs, many friends/businesses have been unable to work and ultimately unable to do what they love. Live music is something so special. It brings people together, it creates friendships, relationships, a whole family of 'strangers'. We don't want it back...we need it back".
The poignant lyrics will definitely tug at your heart-stings, when gigs return I can see this song going off and sending the crowd wild. A massive anthemic sound with punk-rock undertones, so if you are a fan of Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters or The Gaslight Anthem then you need to add these guys to your playlists.
