DARE ABOVE NEMO

Dare Above Nemo is the musical project of singer/songwriter Ethan Attwood-Summers.  Bringing together different styles that influence his own, from post-punk to new wave, artists such a George Clinton and Warpaint, he also takes inspiration from different soundtracks like cartoons, video games and Disney.  His music takes a unique approach of enigmatic and unusual soundscapes, applying DIY recording techniques to create a sound that he believes enhances intimate subtleties.  His latest single 'Be Here Now' is the first original release from the musician and follows his first release, a cover of The Jesus and Mary Chain song 'Just Like Honey', which moulds the original into a pulsating and woozy lullaby-like version.  Together, they are the perfect introduction to his unique sound and to kick starting his journey of sculpting his own brand of nightmare pop.

'Be Here Now'  hits you instantly with the industrial electronic vibe, the way in which Ethan has consciously and deliberately placed the instruments and vocals to hit notes that feel harsh with a slight dissonance to them creates an intense yet captivating melody.  There is a  slight off tune rhythm that will pull you in, eager to hear more and see what else the track is going to throw at you, which is cleverly done by Ethan.    The thrashing guitar riffs are joined by a deep synth bassline that adds depth, a feeling of warmth that softens the harshness of the high end elements.  Ethan's vocal tone is delicate yet unusual making it so captivating and fitting for a track of this style.  The unexpected and sudden sound to 'Be Here Now' makes it so addictive, you come into the track not really knowing the direction it's going to take, which you then find yourself listening to it over and over.  There is also a nod to the retro video game music, particularly with the subtle synth jabs that are faintly heard in the background. I am so excited to see what else Ethan comes out with in the future, with his unusual and unique music/vocal style he will no doubt garner a lot of attention.

Speaking on 'Be Here Now': "I wanted to create a song which sounded as if The Strokes had soundtracked the anti-gravity racing game series 'WipeOut'".

He has since release his music video for 'Be Here Now', which he describes: "I wanted the visual to be direct and simple and for the point of focus to be me with a patch of light, it was a quick video to make - I just turned on the camera and tried not to overthink how I'd perform it"
