Aberdeen based psychedelic rock band Chisel Chin formed after the band members who all became friends at a young ages and bonded over their love for music. They blend many genres within their sound but they are heavily influenced by Kraut Rock and psychedelic music and they have been exploring and adapting their influences over the years. They have played together different projects (including MEDS & Rolo Greb) and now with Chisel Chin, they believe this has brought them into an exciting new chapter in their musical journey. The guys have always been experimental in their approach to music, having a DIY attitude when recording their debut single 'Panorama' which they recorded themselves at their home studios, as well as releasing a self made music video.
'Panorama' was a collaborative effort from the group written at the beginning of 2020 and was mixed by the band throughout the year. It features artwork by Bronwyn Murray and was mastered by Ed Woods. The trackis the first of a run of singles the band will be releasing throughout late 2020 and early 2021.
'Panorama' begins with a funky rhythm that need to played at full volume, the track is bassline heavy and the tight groove from the bass guitar, mirrored by the drum beat, is the main driver with the electric guitar coming in over the top as the track moves along. The song continues for a time with the drums, bassline, guitar melody and the vocals, which is very minimalistic in style but does not deter you away at all, it actually pulls you in further to the song and you are completely locked into the hypnotic groove. We begin to hear the addition of synths and organ keys the further into the track and this lifts those psychedelic vibes even higher. The vocals are injected with reverb, slap back delay and a gritty lo fi effect that gives off that 70s style vocals. The song gains more depth as we reach the densely packed instrumental break where all elements come together to create that full psychedelic sound. The wind effect behind the vocal line "take a panorama" at the end gives it that added eerie vibe, which you don't expect and just like that the song ends swiftly, so you end up playing it again. The track is everything you would want from a minimalistic psychedelic track the groovy rhythm, funky melodies and danceable moments.
