FIELDING CHASE

Fielding Chase is the musical project of William Codona and his wife Rachel.  Releasing their 3 track EP 'Apocalypse', it is 10 minutes of tense music, to both soundtrack the tense times we live in and soothe those tensions.  This release follows their previous debut album, which was released last year.  Glasgow is William's native city and it was the city's indie rock scene in the 1990s where he got into, as a member of The Surfin' Gnomes and Subway.  With the latter attracting interest from record labels.  Fielding Chase was the character played by William Shatner in his second murderous guest starring role Columbo 'Butterfly in Shades of Grey' in 1994.  They leave this trivia fact for listeners to make up their own minds on whether it is relevant to the band and the music.  The EP is an atmospheric journey of intense pop melodies, powerful electric guitar riffs and shimmering synths.

'Nowhere To Hide' kicks off with quite literally a thunderous start.  We get to about 1 minute in before any vocals are heard, for that first minute it is just a fully uptempo instrumental that will get you up dancing and jumping around.  The song is more instrumental heavy, with sparse filtered vocals perfectly placed through out, leaving the intense melodic rhythm to really drive the track.  Elements of tranquil isolated synths create a calmness, but this instantly changes and your mood goes from calm to get up and dance  in a split second.  This track is one that you can immerse yourself into.

'Trapped' starts off with an emotive piano melody which has you thinking that this one will be more of a ballad, laid back and mellow, but no!  It moves into dark synth melody and then joined by heavy electric guitars and full on drums.  The haunting undertones of  the rising synth and the piano melody, creates an eerie vibe that will send chills down your spine.  The chorus explodes into a rock heavy section and it will definitely get the crowd going and head-banging in a live setting.  Similar to 'Nowhere To Hide' the instrumental drives the track and the sudden tempo changes throughout, from the calm melodic piano, synth, vocals, and then picking up the pace and speed in the chorus.

'Breaking Out' is just an out and out powerhouse rock anthem, starting as it means to go on, with the upbeat tempo that stays consistent throughout.  The guitars, drums and driving rhythm are just completely in your face and will get you up and jumping around like crazy.  The mix of electric guitars and synthesisers gives the song that intense atmosphere but also a soft texture, that brings together the uniqueness of their music.  Again similar to the previous songs, the instrumental drives the track with the vocals there but not at the forefront, making you focus more on what is happening instrumentally.

The overall EP is a complete cinematic experience that pulls you in and holds your full attention for the full 3 tracks.
