AULD SPELLS

Auld Spells are a rising Edinburgh based psychedelic dream - pop band that blend psychotropic sounds, with dreampop undertones.  The band consists of Tommy Danbury (lead vocals and guitarist), Rob Spellsman (keyboard), Peter Wilson (drums), Murray and Sandy Raeburn (guitar and bass).  Their music will remind you of Beach House, Neil Young, Nick Cave, My Bloody Valentine and Slowdrive.  The band have been in the studio keeping busy and have been releasing a song a month, for the forseeable.  'Something Something Something', 'Julie', 'The Moon' were the bands first 3 releases, showcasing their distinctive sound.  Merging nostalgic 60s jangle pop and early 90s shoegaze, psychedelic guitar riffs layered with cathartic notes, to mellow dream pop with laid back vibes.

'Dead Gurl' and '14th Floor' are the most recent singles from the guys.  'Dead Gurl' tells the melancholy story of the youth being attracted to danger.  The track instantly brings you into it's haunting dreamscape atmosphere, with those dreamy reverb guitars, thick bassline, airy organs, mellow drums and laid back rock n roll rhythm.  Tommy's soulful baritone vocals are layered with a smooth and velvety tone.  The subtle atmospheric female vocals that can be heard in the chorus section and the contrast with Tommy's deep vocals add to the over all haunting ambience and really binds the track together.  You will be completely captivated, closing your eyes and swaying along.  Very reminiscent of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Angelo Badalamenti.  Simply a beautiful track.

The following single '14th Floor' will take you on the journey of "hazy dreams and broken memories of a relationship clouded by  addiction and mental health".  Similar to 'Dead Gurl', '14th Floor' has that same haunting atmosphere and dark undertones, with each element grabbing hold of you and pulling you in.  The track begins with those dreamy reverb guitar riffs, moving into a beautifully delivered melody of emotional chord progressions and heart felt lyrics.  The smooth and velvet vocals from Tommy are both soothing and heartwrenching at the same time.  A stunningly delivered track.
