THE PASSING SAGES
The Passing Sages are a fife based six piece pop band who's music is filled with memorable melodies, funky rhythms and rich harmonies. They bring a mixture of sounds, combining contemporary with retro and nostalgia vibes. They take a lot of their influences from artists such as Lady Gaga, Chic and Grace Jones. They bring a fresh, unique and original take on disco, electronica and soul, and they are brimming with confidence. The Passing Sages are made up of Carrie Forgan (vocals), Holly Clark (vocals), Nic Holson (guitar), Mr Clyne (bass), Daniel Keay (keys) and Sean Priestley (drums). Formed in 2017 the band is a regeneration of previous musical projects, which included Sean, Nic and Mr Clyne's the alt-rock band State of Truth as well as Nic's work with Dumferline based songwriter Glen Gates, who continues to write for the The Passing Sages. Holly and Carrie joined the band after a year crafting their musical style and their first gig took place soon after, supporting Moonlight Zoo. The band line up was finally complete with the addition of Daniel Keay in 2020.
Each band member brings their own musical tastes and experiences to the group and respectively these differences shine through in their positive and energetic music. Over the past few years the band have released several singles including their jazzy and up beat debut single '(Your Love Makes Me) Happy' in 2019, which also included the smooth and soulful b side track 'I Was Wrong' and then their next single 'Destiny' which was released in early 2020.
The EP title track and lead single 'Burnin Up' is a seriously infectious song with an energy that is guaranteed to get you up on your feet dancing. The driving drums and guitars and powerful synths heard at the beginning of the track, embody that combination of disco vibes and rock energy. The vocals will get right into your head and have you singing along instantly, the liveliness and spirit of this track is truly addictive and it's just pure electric. A song that the band say "Conveys a simple a simple message; let go, forget your problems and party hard."'Wonderful Person' has that similar upbeat energy as 'Burnin Up' again making it hard not to get up and dance to. The funky bassline, jazzy piano riffs and upbeat vocals drive this track, radiating positivity and happiness that in just one listen your mood will be instantly lifted. The song explores the experience of meeting someone who inspires and encourages you to be a better person and become the best version of yourself, which beams through this track instrumentally and lyrically.
'Kindest Boy' sits back in terms of tempo, however still containing those incredible melodic guitar riffs, driving drums and jazzy piano riffs. The back and forth with the vocal harmonies, delivers those emotions and feelings of what the track is exploring, which love and admiration of someone special. The beautiful guitar solo in this track will send chills down your spine.
'Octave High' has those pure disco funk guitars and bassline, soulful vocals and keys. The groovy vibe of this track with the harmonic vocals over the top makes this track an absolute anthem. The track flows smoothly with all elements complimenting each other perfectly, a definite toe tapper.
An incredible debut EP from these guys that will firmly place them on the radar! You will dance your way through this EP! The overall vibe, electric feel good energy and how well crafted each track is lyrically and musically, shows that these guys are here and they are ready to show you who they are!
