NICOL & ELLIOTT
Scottish duo Nicol & Elliot were originally formed for a one off show, however they quickly discovered their songwriting prowess and live chemistry that they both felt would be difficult to ignore. Their feelings were soon to prove right with their Folk Americana sound catching the attention of legendary Glasgow label Electric Honey. Going on to release their Bluegrass fused debut single 'Wish You'd Stayed Away' in March 2019, followed by slow ballad 'Sweet Downfall' in October of the same year. The duo moved from Electric Honey to join forces with Glasgow based label Last Night From Glasgow's hive imprint for the release of their debut EP 'My Heart Will Wait'. This EP took a new direction with the musical style, embarking on a self explorative journey into dark subject topics in the Southern Gothic tradition. They then continued this journey into Southern Gothic and Americana Folk-Noir, with the release of their fourth single 'The Storm' in September and then followed by their latest release 'Dragging Me Down'
As soon as you listen to 'Dragging Me Down' you can instantly hear the Southern Gothic style, with the dark undertones coming through at different points within the track. Particularly with the vocal harmony's and the fiddle heard throughout, both playing alongside each other simultaneously and really creating the tense ambience that will no doubt draw out different feelings from anyone who listens and completely pulling you in. I feel the track is not meant to make you relax (in a good way of course!), it's more to keep you alert and focused on every element of the style, instrumentation and vocals. It creates a feeling that you just can't seem to put a finger on, finding yourself coming back again and again to listen. It is a stunningly striking track and beautifully crafted.Check the track out below and go follow Nicol & Elliott on all their socials! ↓↓
