EWAN PATRICK

Ewan Patrick is an Edinburgh based singer - songwriter, who already has a track record of having played in bands over the years and received airplay on radios such as BBC Radio 1, as well as BBC Regional and commercial radios.  He has gigged all over the UK and has also played a number of UK festivals.  Now he is venturing into the solo world, recording songs that he has had sitting in the archives, ones that never manage to find their place within the bands he was in.  He has written, recorded, mixed and mastered all of his own music and has since released his debut tracks 'Hurricane' and 'Restrospect'. 

Ewan takes a lot of his influences for his music from some of the greats that have dominated popular music over the last 60 years.  His parents being big Beatles fans and owned all of their records on vinyl (albums, singles, EPs).  This inspired him to buy his very own record player in his early teens, where he learned how to craft songs in his own style and his influences.  listening to LPs from the likes of The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys and Neil Young.  Then going on to find the music of Bowie, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley.  He mentions that seeing Paul McCartney in concert, had inspired him to take the direction that he has within his music "The thing that struck me was the connection between everyone in the audience.  How the songs resonated and meant something real to everyone in the room.  It has made me think that I should stop shying away from experiences and emotions we all share." 

With both the tracks 'Retrospect' and 'Hurricane' there is a sense of nostalgia especially for those who are fans of any of the above artists mentioned and will no doubt enjoy listening to Ewan's music.  The latest track 'Restrospect' in particular gives off lots of Bowie influences, especially the way in which Ewan is singing, how he holds the notes and carries them through the track, it is very reminiscent of Bowie.  Ewan's voice sits in the mix perfectly, the way he has mixed this track placing each part in a way where one doesn't overpower the other, letting the guitars, drums and vocals all come through.  Making it an easy listen track guaranteed to get your toes tapping along to!  'Hurricane' is a more up tempo track compared to 'Restrospect', it has an edgier rock vibe with a heavier use of electric guitars, which really drive the track.  Definitely a track to be played at high volume, the perfect driving with the windows down type of song!  Both these tracks are written extremely well and the passion in Ewan's voice really shines through.  Which is something Ewan mentions that is important for his music "For me, truth and honesty in songwriting is really important and I hope that comes through when people listen to my songs."
