COLUMBIA

Liverpool based 'Rock n Roll' 5 piece Columbia, are taking the music scene by storm.  The band consists of Alex Sheppo (frontman), Jonny Eccleshall (bass, vocals), Jay Sweeny (lead guitar), Tom Comer (rhythm guitar) and Jay Culkin (drums).  The band was formed in 2017 and the guys are now pinned as one of Merseysides next top bands.  They have toured the UK and supported big names such as; The Sherlocks, Kyle Falconer (The View) and Jamie Webster, placing them firmly on the map as ones to watch. 

The band take their musical influences from bands like The Verve, Oasis, Rolling Stones, Stone Roses and The Beatles.  Aswell as the underground Dance & Techno music scene, combining these styles to create a unique direction with their music and cultivating it to become their signature sound.  

Their latest single 'Fat catz' was unleashed into the world on Friday 23rd October!  Recorded at '3rd Planet Recording Studios' with Jose Ibanez.  It is a track that tells the story of working class life, where you work hard to be able to enjoy the weekend, work hard play hard.  The band showcase a different sound in this track, with powerful drum beats, fierce guitar melodies and undeniable Scouse vocals, creating a powerhouse confidence driven track infusing punk vibes and dance melodies that will get you moving and grooving!  The dance elements can be heard throughout, standing out particularly with the guitar hook at the instrumental break.  

 The guitarist Jay Sweeney describes the track "We wanted to write a song that was punky and in your face.  We put together some powerhouse chords and jammed with it for a while and then Jonny came in with the lyrics for the song.  We all loved dance music before forming the band, so we wanted to add some dance type ideas into the guitar solo instead of going traditional with it.  It's ended up being an exciting new tune that has both 90's punk vibes and modern dance hooks running through it".  

The bassist Jonny talks writing the lyrics "The band already had the chords down for 'Fat Cats' so I came in and wrote the lyrics as we felt the band had something special with the song.  At the time we were going out a lot so I wrote the lyrics based on the party lifestyle and how everyone will work mega hard during the week and let their hair down at the weekend".

'Fat Cats'  is an out and out banger of a track that will definitely get the crowd going in a live setting and a track that people will play at full volume on repeat!  So go check it out!

The guys have been keeping busy over the past months during lockdown, they have been using the time to write and record new music.  They are planning to head out on a UK tour in 2021 alongside releasing their debut EP.  So keep your eyes and ears on these guys and check them out below! ↓↓
