Kiesza - Crave

Kiesza - Crave (Released 14th August 2020)

9 Tracks

Pop

This is the first album from Kiesza since her Sound Of A Woman album in 2014.  Crave is shorter than her previous album, with only 9 tracks compared to 16 tracks on Sound Of A Woman.  However this does not deter from how good this album is!  Completely oozing 80s pop dance vibes from the get go.

Kiesza is one of those artists that puts her whole self and energy into her music and live performances and this album is no different.

Track 1. Run Renegade

Starting off the album with an upbeat 80s pop dance track, guaranteed to get you up on your feet dancing, I know I was!  The prominent bass line kicking the song off, you just know this is going to be a bop!  The chorus is really where this track goes off, if you are not dancing yet then you certainly will at the chorus!  It is definitely a great singalong song and you can pick up on the lyrics pretty quickly, meaning you can sing at the top of your lungs especially at the chorus!  Both the instrumental and Kiesza's vocals complement each other extremely well, with neither overpowering each other.

Track 2. All Of The Feelings

Another get up and dance bop, this one brings the sass with the finger snaps through out.  This track really gives off happy and positive vibes, one of those songs that will make you smile!  Kiesza's vocals sitting to the front of the mix but not overpowering the rest of the track and giving the instrumental space to come forward in the mix at the chorus. It just gives off an electric 80's dance vibe!  Check out her isolation music video below!

Track 3. Crave

The album title track and another track that just emanates happy and positive energy.  This is the kind of song I can imagine driving around on a sunny summers evening, top down car, volume up, driving along the coastline!  The vocals and instrumental are similar to 'All Of The Feelings' in terms of placement in the mix with the vocals sitting at the front and the bass and drums really driving the track. Have you stopped dancing yet? Because I certainly haven't!

Track 4. Can't Be Saved

On initial first play of this track, I though we were getting a slower more piano ballad track.  I was then pleasantly surprised with the change at the chorus!  What I love about this track is the build up from the piano/synth at the start of the song, adding in a distant kick drum and shakers.  Then opens up into the chorus, I really do love the subtle instrumental additions particularly in the 2nd verse.  Kiesza's vocals really are on point on this track!

Track 5. Love Me With Your Lie

This track is a slight change, giving more house influences with the prominent bass line.  Compared to the other tracks this one is more pulled back especially at the chorus, no big build up to the chorus, just a straight up club vibe.  Can definitely visualise this being played in a club.  This is just a great song to vibe to!

Track 6. When Boys Cry

This track brings an edgier sound compared to the other tracks!  Similar to 'Love With Your Lie' the track is pulled back to really emphasise Kiesza's vocals and to allow us to focus our attention more on the lyrics and still delivering on the dance rhythms and vibes!

Track 7. Sky Ain't The Limit

So the first thing that stood in this track is the off beat clap!  This is what I have loved all the way through out Crave, Kiesza adds in these elements that just makes the album more unique! With the off beat clap you think it shouldn't work but it does!  We go back to the 80s vibes on this track that we have heard previously, with the prominent synths and drums.  The first of 2 tracks to have a complete dance break at the chorus with no vocals. Again an absolute banger that serves up those 80s rhythms.

Track 8. Love Never Dies

This track has a similar opening as 'Can't Be Saved' with the piano starting off and leading into Kiesza's vocals.  Followed by a much heavier chorus, a rockier vibe which still fits in with the overall sound of the album.  Usually when a track comes along that strays from the overall vibe it can sound out of place, but this track isn't like that at all, I feel it really cements this album and ties it all together.  The heavy instrumentation, deep and personal lyrics, together creates an incredible track.  The hidden gem of the album!

Track 9. Dance With Your Best Friend (With LICK DROP, Cocanina, Shan Vincent De Paul)

The final track of the album and the first track to include features, as soon as the track started I knew this one is going to be a banger, oozing those club vibes .  Each feature artist brings their own style to the track, their vocals flow together and the transition into each artist is so smooth.  An overall great club track.

Kiesza has returned with an absolute incredible album, I have supported Kiesza since her 'Sound Of A Woman' album and ever since she announced 'Crave' I have been looking forward to the release.  Now that it has finally dropped I have been listening to it non stop!  No song is a skip and that is something that generally doesn't happen with albums, usually artists will add songs in to fill up their album and it's clear that Kiesza has made sure this was not the case for this album, the quality of this album really shows this!
