THE GREAT LESLIE

The Great Leslie are a London based alternative rock band.  Who bring raw emotive vocals and influences of rock n roll, keeping you on your toes and wanting more!  The bands influences come from many artists in the 60s, 70s & 80s, from musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Queen, David Bowie and Led Zeplin.  Inspired by the eccentric and electric energy that these musicians brought, the band incorporate that style into their own music, creating a sound that stands out from the rest and is uniquely theirs.

The band was formed in early 2019 by frontman Ollie Trevers, who trained at Leeds College of Music and ICMP (The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance).  A few months after their formation, the band began performing live gigs throughout London.  They have also had several successful EPs to add to their growing catalogue.  The EPs truly show the diverse styles and unique sound that these guys harbour and create, continually evolving and experimenting with their sound.  From their 'Saucy, Naughty, Rubbish' EP delivering a post - punk, classic rock sound, to their 'Cordelia' EP which takes you on a journey of folk inspired, psychedelic blues.

The band have released 2 new singles this year 'I Know You Know' in March, and most recently 'Money' in August.  'Money' is one of those tracks that instantly hits you with a wall of rock n roll infused with funk, particularly with the prominent bass line right at the beginning!  Ollie mentioned he was inspired to write this track about a past relationship, where his partner was "materialistic" leading him to realise that they are completely different from each other.  Ollie also mentions that the track seeks to highlight love as the "true currency of peoples soul, as opposed to the contents of their bank account" and "pushing back the idea of materialism and a materialistic society".  The rhythm guitar was the first part of the song to be written and brought to life, with the lyrics coming at a later stage. Talking about the lyrics, Ollie mentioned that he did not want the lyrics to be "too on the nose", he wanted to write in a way that "showed how I feel", and not "telling people this is how you should feel".  He had a "rough idea of the arrangement" of the track, taking it to the rest of the band who added their own elements ultimately making it, as ollie describes "a bloody banger" Check them out below ↓↓

This is a band that everyone should be following, and if you aren't, then get following them, keep yourself updated on what these guys are getting up to!  I am so excited to see where the band are heading and to be on the journey with them!  Hopefully when everything opens back up and gigs can resume, they will make the trip up to Scotland for a gig!
